Introducing one of Croatia’s greatest painters, Vlaho Bukovac

Vlaho Bukovac is known as one of Crotia’s greatest painters who was born on today’s day, July 4th in Cavtat near Dubrovnik. Today, when we celebrate the 158th birthday anniversary of this recognized painter, is a perfect opportunity to remind us of his inimitable work that continues to be admired by artists and the cultural elite.
Born in Cavtat as the son of Italian/Croatian parents, Vlaho Bukovac received his artistic education in Paris, at the time the undisputed center of culture and art. In his life, Bukovac travelled a great deal and visited numerous countries such as England, Chille, Peru, North America. Still, he never forgot where he came from and frequently returned back to Dalmatia and his native Cavtat.

Professionally, his works are a mix of different styles which he often changed throughout the years. He became known for his paintings of landscapes, portraits and nude, out of which the most known painting “Une fleur” was sold at the London’s Bonhams auction house for £100,800.00.
